The Valley or New Farm, 50 Cents Either Way

Fortitude Valley

The Valley is the centre of Brisbane's scene. The Wickham, at 308 Wickham Street, has been a proud LGBTQIA+ venue since the 1970s, with drag, Out On Sunday and after parties for Pride Fair Day and River Pride. Pride's march gathers at the corner of Ann and Brunswick Streets. In Spring Hill, the Sportsman Hotel at 130 Leichhardt Street bills itself as Brisbane's Home of Drag; regulars call it The Pub, it has served the community since 1989, and it opens Tuesday to Sunday.

New Farm

New Farm Park is Pride's Fair Day home again in 2026, back after several years at Musgrave Park, and Brisbane Powerhouse hosts the Melt Festival from 21 October to 8 November 2026, with its River Pride Parade at 4pm on 24 October. A stroll through the park makes a lower-key first date than a club.

Getting between the two is cheap. Translink charges a flat 50 cents on buses, trains, ferries and trams, Airtrain excepted, by go card or bank card, so a date across town costs 50 cents each way on public transport.

Spring Means Pride in Brisbane

Brisbane Pride Festival runs through September and October every year. In 2026 it runs from 26 September to 31 October, and the big day falls on Saturday 24 October: the Rally and March gathers at 9am at the corner of Ann and Brunswick Streets, steps off at 10am down Brunswick Street, and Fair Day follows at New Farm Park from 10am to 5pm. It began in 1990 as a rally and march that ended at Musgrave Park in South Brisbane.

The 2026 programme has no bi+ night of its own, so Fair Day, Melt and the Valley's bars are where you'll be among the crowd. Further out, the Sunshine Coast Pride Festival runs from 14 to 23 November 2026, Moreton Bay's PrideFest at Pine Rivers Park is pencilled in for April 2027 and Logan's Loud & Proud for October 2027.

What day is Brisbane Pride Fair Day?

In 2026 it's on Saturday 24 October, at New Farm Park from 10am to 5pm, straight after the Rally and March, which gathers at 9am at Ann and Brunswick Streets. The wider festival runs from 26 September to 31 October.

Is Fortitude Valley the gay part of Brisbane?

Yes, the Valley is the centre of the scene, and The Wickham on Wickham Street has been an LGBTQIA+ venue since the 1970s. Spring Hill has the Sportsman Hotel, and New Farm has the park and Brisbane Powerhouse.

How much is public transport in Brisbane?

Every Translink trip costs a flat 50 cents, Airtrain excepted, by go card or bank card, so getting to a date and back costs a dollar.

Is there a sexual health clinic in Brisbane city?

Yes. Metro North Sexual Health Service at 270 Roma Street does STI testing and treatment, PEP and PrEP management. You need an appointment: call (07) 3837 5611 on a weekday between 8.30am and 4pm.

Are there bi nights at Brisbane Pride?

The 2026 programme has no bi+ specific event, so Fair Day and Melt's River Pride Parade, both on 24 October, are the easiest ways to join the crowd.
