Bisexual Dating in Johannesburg and Pretoria
Bi and curious company at both ends of the Gautrain.
A Big, Curious Crowd in Gauteng
Gauteng has more than 440 My Bisexual Secret members, and close to 200 of them list Johannesburg, Pretoria or Benoni as their town, which gives bisexual dating in Johannesburg a proper local pool. Below: where Joburg and Pretoria go out, Pride, a bi social club, clinics and how to meet safely.
Only Ontario and Greater London have more members on the site. The crowd is mostly male, and Gauteng's women and couples have profiles too. Bi curious and new to it? Start with bi curious dating, and see the rest of the country on our South Africa page.
A Night Out in Joburg, a Date in Pretoria
Joburg: Start in Melville
Melville is the hub of the city's queer nightlife now, with most of the venues on 7th Street and Main Road. Ratz, at 9 7th Street, has been under new management since August 2025 and is billed as proudly queer-forward. Liquid Blue, at 8 7th Street, is a longtime favourite of Joburg's LGBTQ+ people of colour, and the Great Dane at 8 Main Road reopened in August 2025. Newtown has Bad Manors.
The scene has moved before. In the early 1980s Hillbrow, Marshalltown and Yeoville were the centre of queer nightlife, and Hillbrow still has its Simon Nkoli Corner.
Pretoria: One Train Ride Away
Pretoria has a Pride of its own, held in 2026 on Saturday 10 October at Centurion Rugby Club. The Gautrain links Park, Rosebank and Sandton with Midrand, Centurion, Pretoria and Hatfield, and takes a Gautrain card or a contactless bank card, so a member in Hatfield and another in Rosebank are a single train ride apart. Soweto holds its Pride on the last Saturday of September, though Rea Vaya's Soweto buses were suspended again in July 2026, so check first.
The Youngest Crowd on Our City Pages
Gauteng is the youngest region on any of our city pages: 25 to 34 is its biggest band, at 35%, and more than six in ten members are under 45.

Pride, Bi History and a Club of Your Own
Johannesburg Pride comes round every year in late October, and these days it fills Katherine Street in Sandton. In 2026 it falls on Saturday 31 October, with the march at 2pm and no entry fee, rounding off a month of Pride of Africa events. The city has history: Africa's first Pride march set off here on 13 October 1990, about 800 people strong and many of them masked, and Celebrate Bisexuality Day, first marked in 1999, is usually traced to the ILGA conference held in Johannesburg that year.
amBi Johannesburg
Rather meet bi people in a group first? amBi Johannesburg is a bi social club founded in 2017, with a private Meetup group of more than 500 people that covers Gauteng, with Pretoria and Midrand included. Recent outings have included pool in Rosebank and a picnic with a thrift market. Queerioke and Poly Picnic are two more bi-inclusive socials on the city's calendar.
Meet in Company, Go Home Happy
In June 2025, Gauteng's legislature warned that people were being lured to Maboneng through hookup apps and then kidnapped, robbed or assaulted. Its advice: never meet a new contact somewhere isolated or unfamiliar, tell people you trust what your plans are, and report anything suspicious to SAPS. Gauteng Tourism adds two more: make the first meeting somewhere busy, such as a restaurant or a coffee shop, and walk away if anything feels wrong.
On the site, a blue tick means someone's identity has been checked, so wait for one before you agree to meet, and block and report anyone who pushes for a quiet spot. Our safety advice covers the rest.
PrEP and Testing at City Clinics
City of Johannesburg clinics test for HIV and offer PEP. They also give PrEP to HIV-negative people who ask for it or are at substantial risk, plus injectable lenacapavir where it's available.
